Williamson Branch "Southern Nights" FT Carl Jackson
Nashville, Tenn. - Viral sensation Williamson Branch just unveiled their feel-good new single, Southern Nights featuring Carl Jackson. The upbeat Bluegrass recording will serve as the Tennessee-based band’s latest release to radio, with the group channeling an inner 1970s vibe. Fans can download and/or stream the full song HERE.
“Southern Nights” is a song that was written and originally released by Allen Toussaint in 1975. It would eventually be recorded by Country legend Glen Campbell for his 1977 album of the same name, and become a crossover smash that topped the Billboard Hot 100. On the newly invigorated 2024 version from Williamson Branch, it takes inspiration from Campbell’s well-known version. The Bluegrass remake includes lead vocals from Melody Williamson Keyes, alongside the rest of the family band including sisters Kadence Williamson Reynolds, Caroline Williamson and parents Kevin and Debbie Williamson. They are joined by the legendary Carl Jackson who plays banjo, which marks a full-circle moment since he also played on Campbell’s original “Southern Nights.”
The group is kicking their promotional efforts into high gear. They appeared this morning on WSM 650-AM’s Coffee, Country & Cody, where they played the song for the very first time on-air. The broadcast was also accompanied by a lively performance, and simulcast live on Circle TV. Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to watch the broadcast premiere of the groovy official video beginning next week on the nationally-syndicated TV show, Bluegrass Ridge. The program is seen in 120 million homes. It also will feature a sit-down interview with lead singer Melody to accompany the premiere.
The latest release is the follow-up to the previous single, “Kentucky Highway.” It quickly became a staple with radio DJs, becoming one of the band’s highest charting songs to date on the main Bluegrass Today Weekly Airplay Chart, peaking in the Top Five. The original tune was penned by Kevin Williamson. Throughout 2024, the group has a busy tour schedule, which will see them traveling throughout the country. This year also marks the band’s 10th Anniversary.
